Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
Physical education
The sport program at Kogarah Intensive English Centre aims to develop movement skills and motivate students to participate in physical activity through fun and competitive games allowing students to experience a range of culturally diverse sports. Sport is an effective way of developing communication, team building and social skills. Programs from external sport providers such as Cricket NSW, AFL NSW are implemented into the program to ensure students are exposed to quality coaching in a variety of sports. Students are also prepared for carnivals and gala days and are encouraged to participate in local community sport.
Personal development and health
In Health, students focus on a number of areas aimed to prepare them for the mainstream secondary curriculum. Primarily, students focus on the necessary language features, vocabulary and concepts, through studying topics such as Drugs and Alcohol and Mental Health. Students develop their ability to respond to and communicate ideas through informative and visual texts. Students also develop necessary life skills, such as communication, decision making, problem solving and collaboration.
